This is the story of Doaa, an ordinary girl from a village in Syria, who in 2015 became one of five hundred people crammed on to a fishing boat setting sail for Europe. The boat was deliberately capsized, and of those five hundred people, eleven survived; they were rescued four days after the boat sank. Doaa was one of them - her fiancé Bassem, with whom she had fled, was ¬ he drowned in front of her. Melissa Fleming, the Chief Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, heard about Doaa and the death of 489 of her fellow refugees on the day she was pulled out of the water. She decided to fly to Crete to meet this extraordinary girl, who had rescued a toddler when she was nearly dead herself. They struck an instant bond, and Melissa saw in Doaa the story of the war in Syria embodied by one young woman. She has decided to tell Doaa´s story - the dangers she fled, and the journey she risked to escape the conflagration in her homeland. Doaa is the face of the millions of mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daughters and sons who risk everything as they try to escape war, violence and death. Doaa´s story will revolutionize how we see the thousands of people who die every year in search of a home. It will squarely face one of the greatest moral questions of our age: will we let more people die in boats and trucks, or will we find a way to help them?

Here´s a biographical profile of the White brothers who built steamers and trucks and developed a reputation for unique marketing concepts. ´´The Fight of the Century´´ took place in 1910, pitting Jack Johnson, the first African American heavyweight boxing champion against Jim Jefferies who was white. The fight was shrouded with racial tension and gave rise to the term ´´Great White Hope,´´ referring to the need to find a white man capable of defeating the black champion. Jeffries, the unbeaten but retired former champion stepped forward. Walter, Windsor and Rollin White, owners of the White Company of Cleveland, the world´s largest producer of steam cars and a recent convert to gasoline-powered automobiles, saw a great marketing opportunity with a play on their name. They offered a gasoline powered White automobile to Johnson and another White car to Jeffries, to use as pacing cars for their morning workouts. Jeffries lost the fight. Johnson became a wealthy celebrity-athlete, and the White Company of Cleveland went on to become one of the nation´s four largest truck manufacturers. 1. Language: English. In his debut collection of candid, shocking, and just plain hilarious essays, comedic artist and musician Greg Scarnici recounts the period in his life when he was just starting to understand his sexuality and the city of New York that he calls home. From getting high with the midget from Twin Peaks to giving a trucker a lap dance to the tune of Pebbles´ ´´Mercedes Boy´´, I Hope My Mother Doesn´t Read This offers a snapshot of an artist coming to grips with his comedic artistry at a time when gay comedians were not as accepted as they are today. There are tales of sordid hookups, riotous soirees, narcotic mishaps, and an unforgettable encounter with Gina Gershon at a Saturday Night Live after-party, where Greg currently works as an associate producer. No emotional stone is left unturned as Scarnici gives listeners an uncensored and uproariously funny look into every step of becoming, as legendary nightlife columnist Michael Musto calls him, ´´one of the funniest people in NYC - as well as one of its biggest freaks´´. 1. Be careful what you wish for. I am not a lawyer; I am survivor of a divorce that to a great extent was resolved amicably because my lawyer/partner and I adhered to the principles and rules I put forth in this book. I derived the principles and rules from my experience, conversations with my lawyer/partner, observations of several friends as they meandered and muddled through their divorce proceedings, and from written cases that were similar to mine, all of which I found to be instructive, and some of which I found to be bizarre as well. All of that doesn´t detract one bit from the validity of the principles and rules I so fearlessly put forth, and I hope that you and your spouse heed them - with the consent of your lawyers, of course. 1.
